SUNFLOWERS AND DAISIES

In Ukraine & Russia — Sunflowers and Daisies, John Black reflects on proximity, shared roots, and the fragile nature of balance between closely connected worlds. Divided into two panels, the composition presents distinct visual fields that remain formally and rhythmically intertwined. Sunflowers and daisies — simple, familiar forms — appear across both surfaces, echoing one another while retaining subtle differences. The division does not fully separate; instead, it creates a space of tension where connection persists despite contrast. Rather than addressing conflict directly, the work focuses on continuity — on what is shared, repeated, and remembered. Within the PEACE series, it becomes a meditation on closeness: how parallel identities can diverge, yet remain linked through common structure, memory, and form.
