by John BlackSan Francisco, USA
In Plum and Peony Flowers, John Black explores balance and coexistence through the symbolic language of national flowers. The plum blossom and peony are placed in visual dialogue, sharing a single space while remaining distinct. A subtle division runs through the composition, yet color, line, and rhythm move across it, softening the boundary. A transparent acrylic layer engraved with the word “Peace” introduces both separation and connection. It acts as a quiet mediator—adding distance, but also unifying the surface through light and reflection. Part of the PEACE series, the work reflects on fragile equilibrium: how contrast can exist without rupture, and how harmony is sustained through tension rather than the absence of it.
